I'll tell you..

Did you guys know that the weasel-y guy that figures out that Bruce Wayne is Batman and wants to blackmail him in The Dark Knight was in Iron Man TOO!
It's true, and I have screencapped to prove it.

Go ahead and click on it.
He's one of the random military control room guys in the scene where Iron Man is being chased by the two jets.
I think this is an even bigger deal than Christopher Lee being in The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

Code monkey have every reason..

Okay, so, I could not stop laughing when I saw this.
This picture is hilarious to me.

Something being gay, by which I mean literally homosexual, is not funny.
Something being unintentionally gay, on the other hand, I think can be very funny.
This photograph is the latter.
I mean, if I can paraphrase Meatwad they definitely look like boyfriend and boyfriend.
And for some reason that is making me giggle.
There's something about how they look more airbrushed/Photoshopped than Britney Spears' last album cover... like, JJ Abrams or Entertainment Weekly wanted so badly for you to think the two of them were very, very pretty.
Spock looks like a Precious Moments statue and Kirk looks fresh off the set of Dawson's Creek.

It is important for me to explain that this is only funny if it is not the intention of the filmmakers/magazine editors.
It is my assumption that Kirk and Spock are not gay, much less lovers in the new Star Trek movie.
That is why it is funny to me.
If Kirk and Spock ARE gay and/or lovers in the new Star Trek movie, this photo is no longer funny... it is now COMPLETELY AWESOME!

"What do you mean?" I hear you ask your monitor.
What I mean is that I really don't give a rip about Star Trek, and if Kirk and Spock are gay in this new movie I am way more excited about seeing it.
I know that's probably not the case, but if it is I'm going to get in line for tickets now.
I know that that would probably really upset the Trekkers.. Trekkies?.. Star Trek fans, just as much as it would have upset me if in JJ Abrams' script for a new Superman movie (pre-Superman Returns) he had made Superman gay, but since I don't care about Star Trek I don't care about that.
I guess I'm a bad person.
Anyway, for more on the new Star Trek movie check out all this business over here.

Findin' a better way..

This link is already making the rounds of the big sites, but I thought I'd mention it here because :
A) Diana is a friend of mine and
B) I'm one of the artists in "The Nightcrawler Sketchbooks"!
The awesome Nightcrawler you see here is by Diana herself.

She goes all the way..

Freddie Mercury Gets It Together!
The full picture is over at Let's Be Friends Again.
Another in my series of Freddie Mercury sketches for people from Curt and I's convention appearances.

This one was actually drawn for Bryan Lee O'Malley and given to him at HeroesCon.. and while it is important to note that he did not request this sketch (or any sketch from me at all) he didn't throw it away (while I was standing there).
This leads me to believe he loved it.
That is the train of logic I have chosen to ride upon.
This "crazy train" is also bolstered by my previous intimation that I am in the personal possession of the two greatest images Mr. O'Malley has ever drawn.
I am saving those for tomorrow though.

But now that I think of it..

Original pencils for part of a chrishaley/Big*Red*Robot collaboration project. You may recall seeing the other half of this image earlier, but the thing you really need to see is this..

This is the cover Dylan made for our latest mixtapery project : RETURN OF THE PING!
Please go get your download-and-enjoy on and let Dylan and I know what you think.

You have confirmed..

The first poster for the upcoming Street Fighter : The Legend of Chun-Li has found it's way to the internet.
Huzzah.
There is a website as well apparently.
It is also in Japanese.. apparently.

The world is unfair..

I can't make out any of the faces..

Continuing my "one-man-meme" of Superman Riding Devil Dinosaur!

This one was given to me by the guy with not only the best name in comics, but possibly the best name in history ever, Zander Cannon!

I don't know why this makes me laugh..

Who's going crazy..

Again, I know it's fashionable of late to rip on Alex Ross, but I think this cover looks awesome.

Not when I need it..

It's funny how when I don't really have anything to talk about, I can find a million things to blog about, but when I have big things going on or a lot of exciting things to talk about I get what amounts to "blog-fright" (Note to self : Get Curt to get the lawyer to trademark that phrase).

I just end up feeling like the task of organizing my memories into coherent thoughts and those thoughts into interesting word-collections ("sentences") is hell of daunting. Or that I'm never going to be able to re-tell my adventures with the same kind of incredible adventure-y-ness that they deserve.

And then I keep putting off doing any regular blogging as well because I keep telling myself, "Dude, you really need to get on that SPX report." And now I've got this Post-It note on my desk filled with post ideas I need to get to, but can't until I get the SPX report out of the way.

So having said that, I should say that SPX was really awesome.
I mean, really.
It's where we need to be.
There is no way Curt and I (and thus, Let's Be Friends Again) will not become a permanent fixture of SPX.
I don't have everything scanned or uploaded yet, so I can't post all my pictures, but there are pictures forthcoming.
I will tell you in advance I own the two greatest things Bryan Lee O'Malley has ever drawn.

Oh, and before I forget, the above art was a 2 minute coloring job I did on a panel from page 5 of Let's Be Friends Again #1 which is being syndicated in it's entirety over at (you guessed it) letsbefriendsagain.com!

As today is Thursday (and Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days we've deigned fit to bless you with new content), there is a new comic/page up as well as insightful writer's commentary from Curt.
Please go check it out, subscribe to the feed, and tell a few dozen of your friends so that we can be friends with them too.. again... for the first time.

We have stories..

Curt Franklin is basically the best guy anyone could ever know.
He's honest, trustworthy, dependable, upstanding, courageous, intelligent, handsome, clever, witty, sharp, understanding, forgiving, encouraging, funny, and most importantly the ballin'-est dude I know, all without being a dick about it.
Thanks to him I've seen places and done things I otherwise never would have seen or done.
Some of these things include meeting Evan Dorkin, James Kochalka, Patrick Gleason, Mike Mignola, Tad Stones, Bryan Lee O'Malley, Nate Bellegarde, Benito Cereno, Becky Cloonan, Dan DiDio, Mike Nelson, Kevin Murhpy, Bill Corbett, and Darth Vader.
Some other things include finding myself passed out in strip club bathrooms, seedy motels in shady parts of town, and in rehab.
That last bit might be a joke... since he's helped me develop this drinking problem it's hard to remember everything clearly.
My point is this, Curt is as good and true a friend and talented and supportive a creative partner as anyone could ever hope for, and I am very thankful that I am able to say he is both to me.
Today is his birthday, and I hope that it is a wonderful one.

Friends won't let you down..

This is a quick little Batman I drew.
Full SPX report coming soon!
I may not post it here though, I may have to go ahead and post it at http://letsbefriendsagain.com/ since the trip was a Let's Be Friends Again-Brand Adventure.

Pardon me..

SPX - The Expo
This is where Curt and I will be this weekend, pushing Let's Be Friends Again on the masses!
I'll probably be live-tweeting it on my Twitter account, so feel free to keep up with that if you like hearing about me talking to Bryan Lee O'Malley about Sloan.

OH!
HEY!
While I'm on the subject of Let's Be Friends Again, LETSBEFRIENDSAGAIN.COM is now officially open for business!
Seriously.
Go check it out.

I don't know what you're doing..

Celebrities who don't want you to vote.

The steel industry collapsed..

Do not listen to this at work..

Bo Burnham.
Basically, this dude is a great rapper.
Definitely not work or family friendly, but I know of little rap that is.
Giving mc chris a run for the best white rapper title?

He's for every one of us..

Art by the amazing John Martz at RobotJohnny.com & colors by me.
As is usually the case, I couldn't decide which version I liked better, so here are both.

I colored and posted this for three reasons.
1) I find great joy in doing simple little coloring jobs like this.
2) I wanted to point you towards RobotJohnny.com if you weren't already aware.
3) News broke this morning that The CW has ordered a pilot for a Smallville style show about Robin before he was Robin called The Graysons.

Anyone have thoughts on any of this?

Won't you come on over..

James Kochalka celebrates the release of Mega Man 9!

He double majored in philosophy & drama..

Via Super Punch.

Does anyone else see this and feel like we are tantalizingly close to Kaneda's motorcycle becoming a reality?

Oh, wait, nevermind. Someone in Japan has already made one.
In fact, apparently a LOT of people have.
It is now my feeling that Ferrari is trying to rip off Kaneda's motorcycle.

So cool in that new Camaro..

Like some kind of revenge missile.
Okay, so Terence Stamp is my hero.
You'd think being General Zod would be enough, but he's also written three memoirs, a novel, and a cookbook.

Plus he was mentioned in the Kinks song, Waterloo Sunset.

The message is clear..

It made you, it made me..

- Original pencils for part of a chrishaley/Big*Red*Robot collaboration project.

- Someone found my blog by searching for "Boner Man Costume". I kid you not.
I am completely uncertain as to how I should feel about this.
Is this person planning on making a "Boner Man" costume for Halloween? If so, how can I insure that they send me pictures of said costume to post here?

- Two posts ago, I presented my review of Hulk #6, and apparently some people were not aware I employed some Photoshoppery to have the Hulk himself sum up my opinion of the issue.
It was supposed to be.. what do you call it.. funny.
I'll try to be more blatant with my "humor" next time.

Lightning shot from the sky..

All I'm trying to say is that is a fine looking movie poster.

Every other day is a kick in the shins..

I did it again last night..

Circa 2002-03

Those of you who've known me long enough (or have been coming around this particular part of the internet long enough) will know I'll always have a special place for this guy (Butch Walker if you're not familiar), but I think this guy has basically got him pegged cold.

What'cha want?

This is the one I've been waiting to bid on in the big Save the Superman house ebay auctions.
I guess what I'm trying to say is please, please don't outbid me on this.
The other thing I guess I'm trying to say is if the bidding for this thing starts getting out of hand, I'm going to start begging to borrow money.
Just wanted to give you some warning.

I wore a jumpsuit..

I've always been against goofy ringtones and whatnot, but for some reason I've had it stuck in my head lately that I want, nay, need to download a song to be the ringtone for my cellular phone.
Why is this?
What do you make of this?

Monday, September 22, 2008

If you havin' girl problems, I feel bad for you son..

I got 99 problems, but havin' nine-hundred and ninety-nine dollars ain't one.
So who wants to help me buy one of these?

To the top of the pops..

Look, I'll do real content when I feel like it, the thing I want to say now is that I cannot wait for this cartoon.

You were at his house..

April is basically awesome at coloring.
Go check it out.

You maybe can't imagine..

From Benjamin Birdie via CBR : Morrison and Quitely told what is in many ways the ultimate Superman story. It shows us what he stands for in every moral degree. It shows us the world he fights for in every level of detail. It is an exacting, inspiring, and poignant accomplishment in the realm of Superhero comics. Almost fable-like in its directness and simplicity at times, but as emotionally in depth as any contemporary work of literary fiction. “All Star Superman” is, in its primary intent, “just” a Superhero comic. But like its subject, it has landed in a medium not completely prepared for how remarkable it could be, and thus has irrevocably changed it for the better.

The best birthday present ever.

I wish I could explain to you how incredible this last issue of All Star Superman is.
The title of this, the last chapter of the greatest Superman story ever was "SUPERMAN IN EXCELSIS".
Every time I read those words it makes my eyes well up.

It really felt like that comic was a birthday present just for me from Grant Morrison and Superman.
And not just A birthday present, but the best birthday present I could possibly receive.. which is (of course) the kind of birthday present Superman would give you.

I'm getting all silly and worked up about it.. and I don't mean to, as I'm sure there's only so much a person can take of me getting excited and ridiculous and hopeful over a comic, but I mean, it was as though everything in it was there to make me feel not just like the glass is half full, but that the glass is all full.
And not just that the glass is all full, but that things being "glass all full" all the time is possible.. that ANYTHING is possible if we're willing to run and stumble and fall and rise to the challenge.

And, it's like, you don't need the whole story, or even whole pages, or any kind of context in some cases and it's like.. just single panels are unbelievable and say so, so much.
It's like the more times I read it, the more powerful it all becomes.
From Jon Morris : "Superman's dearest friends represent everything he loves about humanity: Perry White is the dogged pursuit of unfettered truth, Lois Lane is love and passion, Jimmy Olsen is integrity and daring, Cat Lombard is - as her namesake implies - the satisfaction with the temporal world and Steve Lombard - god bless Steve Lombard, falling to his knees in the middle of the apocalypse to beat back to life the dead heart of a man he spent every waking moment of his own life terrorizing and belittling - is that unchecked sentimentality that we hide behind pride and arrogance."

I don't think I'll ever forget these words as long as I live..
All Star Superman #12 - The choice is simple.

You can spend my money..

The answer is at a strip club. So, the question immediately becomes, "Where can I find a stripper to befriend who is willing to be Robin for Halloween?"

They all played games..

Today is my birthday.
April made this flyer for the party being thrown for me this Saturday.

I'm waiting...

Thanks to eBay, we've been blessed with an early look at the cover to FINAL CRISIS : SUPERMAN BEYOND 3-D #2!

Get on your way..

You heard my pal..

Has ever an image so thoroughly encapsulated the entirety of my being?

Nothing gets so bad..

How could anyone not want this shirt?

There's no surprise..

A look at the goodies in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 20th Anniversary Edition DVD Set due out on October 28.

It can't be denied..

Not getting political at all here, but watching this video of a doddering old man struggling to string together a coherent sentence that even remotely resembles an answer to the questions he's been asked makes me really sad.
I am NOT trying to be insulting or make fun of him.
I'm serious, it makes me sad. It makes me feel bad for him to see a local news guy have him twisting in the wind like that.
I don't know the guy or anything, but he doesn't seem like a bad person and I certainly respect what he's been through for our country, so don't misunderstand me, I am sincerely not trying to be rude or disrespectful.
I am just sad for him and for our country if we elect this man.
More information on the factual errors in his answers in this interview can be found here.

His backpack has jets..

Yes.
Just yes.
No matter what happens with the LHC or the election, this is a fine time to be alive.
This is proof that the terrorists did not win.

Is he strong?

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 9!
It's Spider-Time!

Presented CHRONOLOGICALLY for your pleasure!

Titans Together!

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 8!

I love nostalgia as much as the next guy, but the newer version totally kicks that older one's ass.

All lines to the living...

Via Newsarama : "More specifically Bendis went on to say the post-Invasion Marvel Universe will feature a complete change in his Avengers family of titles, including Bendis leaving Mighty Avengers with issue #20 and the launch of a new title Dark Avengers, with art by Mike Deodato."

Via my brain : "HAHAHAHA!"
Even moreso after reading this rather intelligent proposal to get comics back to the glory days. And I don't mean the 90s.

Steel cable! Just what I need!

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 7!
Wednesday is Flash Day!

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

I don't care what you call me..

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 6!

I have absolutely no recollection of that one at all.
I'm enjoying it now though.

These I remember all too well though.

Haven't seen you in a while..

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 5!
Now we're talking.

Should you need it here are two more Batman cartoon intros : 1977 and 1985(?).

And finally, one of the greatest things I've ever posted :
The Best Part of Batman & Robin

Never forget..

I've been doing some research, and it turns out something like 80% of all the cool websites about comics are all by the same guy.

That guy's name is Rob.
Just when I think I've seen all the sites about Aquaman or Slurpee Cups this guy could possibly come up with, some other site will link to something that links to somewhere that will invariably lead me to some undiscovered (by me) site of Rob's that's basically about something I love.
Today I discovered his shrine to the digest sized comics of my childhood.
I absolutely love these old digests because much of the groundwork for all of my knowledge of the superheroes and comics I love today was laid by these inexpensive little collections relatives would buy for me at the grocery store or Walgreen's on the way out of town to read in the car.
Was that a ridiculous run-on sentence? Yes, it was. Sorry.
These little collections contain some of the earliest stories I ever remember reading of my favorite 4-Color Champions.
I actually had the one pictured here and I remember having no idea what was going on in most of it, but I knew that the ideas being put forth were obviously pretty awesome.
And after reading Final Crisis : Superman Beyond 3D #1, I think Grant may have thought the same thing.

They hunted mammoth as well..

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 4!

Boy, I guess this one could really go either way couldn't it?
Has a nice grand feel to it, but doesn't seem especially mighty does it?
Personally, I'd rather see them take the Thor movie in this direction though..

Awesome, right?
Maybe Marvel can get Dethklok to do the soundtrack.
Couldn't be any worse than this.

Monday, September 08, 2008

Right back where we started from..

Bottle Rocket.
Criterion.
Finally.
Life just got a little better.

Take me down..

I saw just now that Super Punch linked to this picture yesterday, and though it is awesome, the real reason I decided to post about it is because I SAW A DELOREAN ON MY WAY TO WORK TODAY!

FOR REAL!
Dude was all drivin' hella fast like he had somewhere to be.
It was pretty much as awesome as you would have hoped for it to be.

Gone upstairs?

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 3!

Probably best they didn't use this song for that new Hulk movie.

They should be going..

Superhero Video Posting Week : Part 2!

Wouldn't that Iron Man movie have been just a little better if this had been the theme song?

I guess there's always a chance they could use it in the sequel.
The only question now is who can we get to sing it...

Sunday, September 07, 2008

They won't take offense..

Politics are fun (and funny) but let's not forget, this is what I'm really all about.

I'm sure there will be plenty of my usual posts this week as well, but I'm officially making this "Superhero Video Posting Week".
