Runnin' wild and free..

5 Reasons Toy Fair 2008 Was Rad!

I wish I could tell you there was some kind of way I wasn't going to buy that Iron Man Happy Fun Playtime Dress-Up helmet set, but I don't want to lie to you.

It's Incredibly Well-Endowed, But Tragically Invisible Erection Action Aquaman!

Who couldn't use a Kurt Russell action figure?

Minimate Nova! Complete with severed head!

THE SPIRIT!
Best for last? I think so.

Get out of my dreams..

You may remember a former professional wrestler from the late 80s and 90s called The Ultimate Warrior. You may not. If you do remember him, you will most likely remember that when he would "cut promos" (which is to say, was interviewed or spoke directly to the camera) it was obvious that he was bat-shit insane.

Well, he has a blog now.
It is even crazier than when he was saying things like, "Dig your claws into my organs! Stretch into my tendons! Bury your angers into my bones! For the power of the Warrior will always prevail!"

Anyway, onto things that are filled with a little less utter madness.

Action this day..

After reading Cracked.com's The 5 Most Badass Presidents of All-Time, I felt compelled to draw this George Washington fanart.

Plans to break away..

Nicholas Gurewitch is semi-retiring The Perry Bible Fellowship.

The recently announced and now open for business Destination : Blog! is moving right along, footloose and fancy free. Feel free to join in on the fun with us.

At a dinner engagement recently, a Catwoman was requested of me.
I was happy to oblige.

You don't want to feel the phantom punch..

I've decided to start a new series here on the ol' blarg called, Reasons To Keep Living.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 : The Movie is being re-released on DVD this May after years of being out-of-print and ridiculously expensive on electronic-Bay.

Thanks to my favorite writer I own the original copy, but this is exciting news for those of you not lucky enough to be friends with the illegitimate love child of Alan Moore and Chris Onstad.

The book I write..

The new (and improved?) Ben 10.
More details here.

I don't know if any of you have ever caught the show (it's on Cartoon Network) or cared for it, but there's a lot of top notch people from the world of comics involved with it, so I've always been interested.
I don't know about this new iteration, but pretty much all of the designs for the original seasons of the show were by Dave Johnson, and the show itself was created by a studio of comic pros (Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven Seagle) called Man of Action.
To be honest, after an episode or two, I started watching it with the sound off and found it to be much more enjoyable that way. However, when my little cousins (both boys directly in the show's key demographic ages) visited me the last two summers, watching them watch it and really get into it became the most enjoyable way to watch it.

Completely unrelated question, but is 5 updates in one day too many?
I'm exploding with things to post about, but I don't want to overload the blogalaxy!

We stand on the edge..

So there's a trailer.
The official Justice League : The New Frontier site is pretty snazzy as well.
Or head over to CBR and enjoy this interview with Darwyn.
If you're curious, yes, I've already seen it and yes, I do have thoughts.
I'm not sure if I want to save them until after the official release or not though.

I'm a weapon of mass destruction..

Of course, no sooner did I post that other version of this picture that I noticed all the things I needed to fix.
So here is the fixed version.
I'm much happier with it.
I hope you are too.

While I'm talking about young Superman, I might as well mention the Legion of Super Heroes cartoon again.
It really is quite fun, even if it did give us Superman X.
Also, it's helping to fuel Thomas' Terra-Man obsession.

There was an ankle high railing..

Cracked.com (with ample help from Ye Olde Adobe's Photographicry Shoppe) is kind enough to bring us The 40 Most Inappropriate Children's Book Covers.

If you can't dance to this..

MSN offers up 10 Things I Miss About Disneyland.
I've never even been to Disneyland, so I don't know how they know what I would or wouldn't miss, but with pictures like that, who am I to argue?

That's the way we get by..

Toy Fair 2008 is going on as we speak.
Thanks to the blogalaxy's neverending coverage, I bring you Clone Wars Yoda.

I have no idea what I can add to this image, but it certainly looks ripe for some Photoshoppery. A caption, a thought bubble, I don't know.. something.
I'm inviting all takers.
For more feel free to drop by the Star Wars blog.

Like you crazy..

So, what is the point of having a little stuffed doll of yourself if you can't dress it up like your favorite superhero?
God willing this will get noticed by the comics blogalaxy and be a huge hit and give me an excuse to do a whole series of these.
A boy can dream, can't he?

Too much!

You may or may not have seen today's release of Final Crisis #1's cover and solicitation information, but I went ahead and made you a wallpaper of it.
You're welcome.

To thrill you I'll use any device!

Well,
Joel has broken the news about our new team-up blog!
In this instance, the word "our" is used to indicate Joel Priddy, Curt Franklin, and myself.
Joel does a far better job of making it sound grand than I could, so just hit the link.

BLAST OFF!

Seems like yesterday..

Wizard's website has James Robinson's first interview about his upcoming gig on Superman.
My enthusiasm for what he and Geoff Johns have in store for us continues unabated.

You're invincible!

Who knew Superman riding a red dinosaur would someday be declared so universally awesome?

I did.
That's why when the incredible Jon Morris says he will draw something for you, you have to swing for the fences and ask him to draw Superman riding Jack Kirby's Devil Dinosaur.
And that's just what I did last year.

So, on Monday I told you about this awesome post that Thomas at Say It Backwards had put up about the greatest thing ever purchased for $3.
Well, apparently the person responsible for a blog I love, Super Punch, stopped by in time to catch it.
I'm to understand it started making it's way around to other blogs as well as making a monumentous appearance on another site I love, Neatorama.
Then thanks to Neatorama, it managed to find it's way to Newsarama's blog!
Even though the Newsarama one didn't link back here or anything, it was still really exciting to think that I helped something get to that point.
And I've had a ton of new traffic here today thanks to the ones that did "via" Hip Today.
Maybe some of them will even visit again someday!

See Thomas, I told you SIB was awesome. Aren't you glad you came back to us?
Impossibles continue to be conquered!

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

You're staring at me..

It is at times like these that I feel it is important for me (and everyone else) to remember that things could be worse and there is still a universal power that moves with us and around us and flows through us...

And is completely fucking awesome!
I know everyone in the world has already seen that picture, but it is comforting.
Also, in my fantasy world, they are playing a Queen song.
A Queen song about Star Wars.
It's a wonderful fantasy.

I would sincerely love to own all of those shirts.
I think they do a fantastic job of capturing my own world view at the moment.

Can't you see my world is fallin' apart?

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I think this looks awesome.
And the plans that accompany it?
Also awesome.
To me.
I'm just one dude though.
One dude who says "awesome" more than most.

You think you know what you're doing..

There was a point not so very long ago that I felt like I was ready to give up on music. Not just on pursuing it in some fashion, but I was just kinda sick of it all.
Sick of listening to it.
Sick of old stuff I liked.
Sick of trying to listen to new stuff.
I was just sick of music.
I didn't want to listen to it at work. I didn't want to listen to it in the car.
Sick of it.

I've gotten over it though, and I'm glad that I have.

That wasn't Gun Men..

I long to hear..

And since I've gone post crazy today, why don't we all enjoy the just released teaser poster for A Quantum of Solace (AKA Bond 22).

You are the enemy..

I had a free minute today, so I colored this old picture of Curt dressed like Richie Rich that I did.

Best of 2007 : Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four

This was Mike Wieringo's last published comic work and even if the story hadn't been an outstanding, fun read, this book would have found a special place on my recap of 2007.

I'm not going to do a big post about it, instead I just wanted to share this one panel that I think says it all.

Wherein I continue my DC love..

"That’s the greatest thing about the DC Universe – the heroes are heroes. They’re people to aspire to. They are not perfect. They’re like people we know. People we like. They’re people who struggle, but they carry on. Just like all of us. They work together and help each other.
I like that the evil in the DC Universe gets really evil – really dark and twisted – but the heroes break through it, and rise to the challenge. They might not win every time, which is great for stories, but they persevere.
That’s something that appeals to me much more than a universe where everything is gray." - Geoff Johns (again)

You said it, Geoff.

Also, JAMES ROBINSON has just been named the new writer of Superman.

I believe in DC Comics.

"I believe in DC Comics. I believe in the characters and have since I first discovered this wonderful universe. I believe in where we’re going and what we’re fighting for. You know, we can’t take our readers for granted. We screw up, we lose. We gotta learn from our mistakes and the mistakes others make. We gotta fight hard to create better books every month that are worth your time." - Geoff Johns, via Newsarama

It gets bad...

Hellbunny.

I just like things...

This came out yesterday.
Target has it for $9.
Go buy it.
You don't have to buy it at Target, but go buy it somewhere.
I want this show to succeed in every arena.

Take me home..

The Legion of Atheist Super-Heroes!
Comic book characters grouped by religious affiliation.
It's a real website.
Well researched and fun... if not a little weird.

This just in..

Lawsuits, here! Get'cher lawsuits!

The actress was fired..

Don't forget to catch Batman and Brownman on this week's Dancing with the Stars.

Monday, February 04, 2008

So go already..

This, for me, is victory..

No matter which way you go..

You'd better believe he's Iron Man.
CBR has ton of great screen grabs from last night's Super Bowl ad.

Saturday, February 02, 2008

Call now!

Certainly the funniest thing I've seen in some time.

Friday, February 01, 2008

omc...

No need to cry..

One step closer.
It's all up to Maggie now.

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Rain, sleet, or snow..

So there's a blurry, camera-phone look at the "blueprint" for something we'll be taking with us to MoCCA.

We're tied to the 90s...

If you can believe it (and I could not), Curt has updated his blog not once, but twice!
One of the updates even includes art by me done as a gift to Curt for being so awesome.

Taking too much air..

Speaking of action figures, I love this site dedicated to the new DC Universe figures.
I'd especially recommend checking out the pictures of the upcoming Solomon Grundy Build-A-Figure. He's huge!

Flickers in my mind..

Near The Box Of Boom...

This was a Robin redesign I did a while back and never got around to posting.
It's only some tweaks here and there as opposed to a full fledged redesign, but I still really like it.
I've taken a couple swings at coloring it and hated them all, so if anyone with some talent would like to have a go at it, please proceed with my blessing.

What makes a man..

When life sucks for reasons you can do nothing about, now you're a man.

Time will waste you..

Countdown to Final Crisis #15.
Is this cover hilarious to anyone else?

Friday, January 18, 2008

You get the wrong impression..

The second in my series of trivia sketches.

Thursday, January 17, 2008

I need a drink..

I sent the original picture to someone I work with (which was actually creepier looking) and I got this back.

This is no comment on the guy or his politics or whatever, it's just fun.

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Thrust into the world..

First in a series of quick sketches I did at trivia last night in Joey's little photo idea book.
The theme (as suggested by Joey) will quickly emerge.
Though done between rounds, they did not help us win... which is to say, we did not win.

More organic..

The Fortress of Soliloquy presents REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN in 30 seconds!

Update : I also wanted to include Das Übernerd's 30 second (not really) recap of the entire history of the DCU.

Fun with the Solicits!

Wouldn't this help at least a little?

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Fun with the Solicits!

Tonight on Ow! My Balls!

I'll fake it, don't wanna make it..

Also, I just got done hanging up my new Venture Bros. calendar at work.. so that's pretty awesome.

One if you leave..

So here are some possible business card ideas..

If you go..

The earliest known proof.

Stand 10 feet tall..

Caleb has compiled a list of the worst lines (in comics) of 2007.
I don't think it's nearly long enough.

Sunday, January 13, 2008

I'm holding out..

This both cracked me up and was totally awesome to me.
