With a single sigh...

A guy in my office just said that Queen's best album was "the greatest hits CD with the red cover".
And people wonder why I want to explode sometimes.
Worst of all, this guy's a "musician" (in that he writes and plays music in a band).
To me, saying a band's best album is one of their "Greatest Hits" collections is like saying, "I sure am glad I voted for George W. Bush."

Update : In that it says you are an idiot.

As the inestimable Bruce McCullough once said, "Greatest hits albums are for housewives and little girls."

That said, don't you think that there are some bands that are "Greatest Hits" bands, though? I can think of two off the top of my head: the Cars and - and I'm sure this will start some debate - the Doors (which is good because I think they have roughly 127,845.12555 greatest hits albums). The greatest hits albums are a lot more solid than any of their studio albums.

Dylan - Even funnier that Bruce said that in a sketch about The Doors.. or someone wanting to buy a Doors album.

I guess the way I feel is greatest hits albums don't really count as albums. Yes, a band (like The Doors) might be more enjoyable to listen to if you're just listening to their "A" material, but that says more about their ability to put together a completely listenable actual album. And don't get me wrong, I own quite a few "Best of.." collections, but I'd never choose one of them for my deserted island albums... no matter how many great songs are on "Queen : The Platinum Collection".

Dylan - Don't fret for I too have run up against how hard it is to find Kids in the Hall skits online.
I tried for weeks to find the one about one of the Kids hating jazz.
I had absolutely no luck.
Do you know the sketch/monologue I'm talking about?

"I declare this a 'Jazz Free Zone.'"

Yes. I know of what you speak.

YES!
If you ever run into that one, please let me know.
