I Heart Comics.

supermanknowscomicsareawesome
I'm putting words in his mouth, but it's true!
Comics are awesome!

Superman vs He-Man
Are you kidding me?! "From Eternia with DEATH!"
I dare you to try and tell me that's not exploding with awesomeness!
Comics are strange and beautiful and I absolutely love them.

And this was just the stuff I had handy in a hurry!
I love movies and toys and books and great TV and video games, but nothing you can look at is better than comics.
Comics are like the Superman of entertainment.
SupermanReturnsThePrequels
No one's bigger, no one's better, and no one can beat him.
That's comics, and comics are awesome.

and no one can take it away...

An artist I really dig just commented that my picture of Impulse was "..the saddest, sweetest thing I've ever seen."
No reason for telling you this other than it made me happy.

the hardcore, the gentle..

Power Girl!
You're damn right I met Power Girl.

The Mach 5!
I also saw the new Mach 5!
I could've jumped in it!
I could've then followed that up with a severe beating from the Con staff.

Penny Arcaders
There are 3 notes on this picture.
Wired has a great article on Penny Arcade.
Go enjoy it as I did.

Did I mention I met Gabe and Tycho in San Diego?
Well, I did.
Tycho was friendly and talkative. We talked about iTunes and their podcasts.
Gabe was busy playing Pokemon on the DS with some kid.
At first I was a little upset about this because it meant I didn't get to talk to him, but in retrospect, it makes me happy. I mean, one that little kid was getting to have fun and two, I don't know what I would have said to him.
Probably something stupid that I'd then wish I hadn't said.

I keep telling myself...

Legion of Super Heroes Vol 1 DVD
This came out yesterday.
It's great.
Amazon has it for like 11 bucks, so that's a fair shake.
Nevermind, Target has it for 9.. fairer shake.

Here is a PVP comic strip from June of last year when Superman Returns came out.
pvp_supermanreturns_original

I decided to color said strip.
PVP Superman Returns Strip
I believe it to be one of my finest coloring jobs, which is to say, I'm fairly proud of it.
I hope you enjoy it as well, and if you aren't already a PVP fan, head over there and become one.

It's Flash week.

Kid Flash Sketch
A sketch from back when I was working on a redesign for Kid Flash (Wally) last year.
Of course, like a month or two after I was working on this idea, Wally/Kid Flash shows up on the Teen Titans cartoon and is awesome.

Impulse.

Impulse, in memory of Mike Wieringo
I drew this a day or two after we heard about Mike Wieringo's passing.
I know it's a little sappy or some such, but I had to draw something.
I also have one I did of Wally the same night that I may or may not post.
You're very missed, Mike.

From the hands of my arms..

This one is for the Dethklok/Metalocalypse fans.
A fan made video using Brendon Small's song from the Saw 3 soundtrack and footage from Metalocalypse.
You're welcome.

I apologize in advance..

If you're like me, seeing stupid people twist in the wind, then crash and burn, is really painful to watch.
Having said that, this is really, really painful.

Wahoo?

So, I just watched the trailer for "The Spectacular Spider-Man", which is the new Spidey cartoon coming sometime in 2008 to Kids WB.
Feel free to go watch it here and then come back.
While I'm fine with the "The Batman"-lite design of the characters, the quality of the animation just looked really cheap.
Is it just me?

On the other hand, this looks great...

Jim Henson's Time Piece

Watch your six..

Superboy by Joel Priddy
One of the best things I brought back from San Diego was this great sketch of Superboy by
Joel.
I see Joel all the time here at home (we had dinner last night as a matter of fact), but within the confines of the Comic-Con it seemed okay to force him to draw something for me.
The Priddy/Haley Team-Up!
There are 3 notes on this picture.

I even made a point of taking a fanboy picture with him.

It has been adapted...

Robin
This is a
Robin I did probably two weeks ago that I planned to post last week, but I didn't feel like doing so in the midst of my Mike Wieringo posting.
Mike had a great, though short, run on Robin which made me even less inclined to post this last week.

Anyway, the whole point of this picture was to try something different stylistically.
I don't know that it's any good, but I think it was somewhat of a success in that it doesn't look like my usual "style".

They eat they're Wheaties..

cnbl-23
Caleb over at Every Day Is Like Wednesday has a fun feature up on Black Lightning featuring Caleb and BL discussing his current and past costumes and what's wrong with all of them.

We feel so left out..

DSC02937
The Hulk is cowering from the pummeling he's received courtesy of The Thing.

I hate having to wear glasses.

I was at The Vault on Sunday night, and this girl (Katie) drew a picture of me really quickly as a joke.
She drew me wearing glasses which immediately put me off, because when I think of myself, I don't see glasses.
Apparently it's all people can see though when I'm wearing them.
A different Sunday I was at The Vault (it's my Sunday night thing) and a friend of Katie's told me I looked like a different person when I took my glasses off.
I would do contacts, but I've got this disease where I can't shove things in my eyes.
I've tried.
I wish I knew more about that eye surgery with the laser beams.
You know the one?
The one where you can shoot laser beams out of your eyes.
That seems like the way to go.

Thoughts?

The kind I'd like to meet...

The Orphan by Scott Kurtz
Here's another Guy Smith I got at Comic-Con.
This one is by Scott Kurtz of
PVP fame.
As you should be able to tell from the sketch, Scott was well acquainted with the character, which equals to awesomeness.
I had originally asked him to draw Superman because I'd been having such poor luck with people knowing who Guy was. Fortunately, Scott seemed to be having a hard time coming up with something Superman-y, so I thought, "Why not ask if he read X-Statix?"
He lit up at the prospect of drawing The Orphan instead of the Man of Steel.
Lesson learned.

Just when you get on a roll..

The Orphan by Ryan Ottley
Here's one of the great pieces of art I got while I was at Comic-Con.
This is
The Orphan/Mr. Sensitive/Guy Smith from X-Force/X-Statix as drawn for me by Ryan Ottley.
He wasn't familiar with the character, but after flipping really quickly through an issue I had with me, Mr. Ottley was able to come up with a pose and expression that was so appropriate for Guy.

Ryan Ottley is an incredible artist.. who has no idea who Deathstroke is.
Well, that's what Scott Kurtz told me.
