I couldn't find him..

Caleb poses a question I too have often wondered which is , "Why is it so hard to keep a Mister Miracle series going?"

Is it a problem with not receiving a favorable enough reception from critics?
Okay, so critics aren't the problem.
Neither is a shortage of stylish handbags or scintillating sound effects.

The answer to this question escapes me.

Oh yes I did.

I really liked Morrison's 7 Soldiers mini and sort of wished that the DCU at large hadn't completely ignored the character (as well as the rest of 7S, now that I think about it). But then again, I am totally retarded for Grant Morrison.

So there's that.

Dylan - Brilliant.

I mark out pretty hard for Morrison too, but I actually didn't care for his take on Mister Miracle.. maybe because I'm so attached to Scott Free.. or maybe because of that scene where the bad guys set him on fire and cut his wiener off with bolt cutters.

I feel sick just typing that.

True, but he escaped even from that! Why? Because he is a god! Freaking awesome, wiener-lopping and all.

And I'm still super-pissed we didn't get a Frankenstein ongoing out of 7S.

Did he come back from that?! I've got to be honest, after that scene and then the opening of the next issue where he's in the wheelchair shopping for adult diapers I think my brain just shut off because I have no recollection of anything that happened after that.

Re: Frankenstein
You and me and Joel Priddy both.
Maybe Grant was too busy.
Or maybe DC thought the market couldn't sustain a 7S Frankenstein book and that Doc Frankenstein book.
The fools.

Think of the last issue sort of like the end of 2001, only instead of passing through his life while inside a big black thing floating in space to be reborn as the next step in human evolution (the Starchild!), Shiloh Norman escapes from a series of alternate reality prisons to be reborn as Mister miracle - a New God.

At least I think that's what happened.

Oh man. Now I have to go and read that series again.

That sounds like it could be pretty cool.. let me know how it turns out.
I still wouldn't take Shiloh over Scott, but I'm willing to give the story another chance maybe.

Dylan Todd said...

But that's just it, Shiloh very well may be Scott. Shiloh might be another prison that Darkseid tried to imprison Scott in. Maybe?

Shilo Norman was actually created by Jack Kirby and was Scott Free's kind of apprentice in the original Mister Miracle series. So while he wasn't a New God, he was taught by one of them! I need to re-read Morrison's series again too, cause I'm really not sure exactly what happened there. He's definitely a separate being from Scott Free though.

Continuity/Greater DCU-wise, yes, Shiloh was Scott's assistant and his own character, but within the confines of the 7S: Mister Miracle miniseries, he very well could have been a mental/perceptual straightjacket for Scott Free. The text is fluid enough to allow for the possibility.

Did I just blow your mind?

Patrick C - I was aware of the Kirby connection.. and I guess I too need to re-read the 7S version and see if I can make a little more sense of it this time.

Also, thanks for stopping by, however you came upon the blog. Yours has been added to my feed reader, so I look forward to any and all Superboy and/or Adam West related content.

Dylan - Now that sounds even more interesting. I guess I really do need to re-read it.
Sigh.. now to the unenviable task of trying to track it down in the ol' longboxes.
