Seriously, my anticipation levels for this movie are getting out of hand.

Hang 'em high...

Along with the Young Neil article on Savage Critics, this is the finest meditation on/exploration of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Universe I've read so far.
I highly recommend reading both it and the comments section if you've already read Vol. 5.

Autumn got dark..

A friend of mine just emailed me and told me he'd finished Scott Pilgrim Vol. 4 last night and that he'd really enjoyed but that Scott's stupidity almost got to be too much at points.

Immediately I thought, "Wait.. Scott's not stupid.. is he?"

I think it's not that he's stupid, it's that he's equal parts naive, obtuse, and self-involved. On a different character, those characteristics would make him the villain or completely unlikeable, but Scott is endearing because he doesn't engage in any of the acts that reveal those characteristics intentionally.
Sure, he's a selfish jerk sometimes, but it's not because he means to be. It's that he just has a hard time seeing the world beyond his world.

What do you guys think?

Champion of the sun..

Someone has come to my blog by Googling the phrase "every single thing in the solar system".

This is awesome to me.

You know what else is awesome?

JEMMA!
Artist extraordinaire and SuperFriend, Jemma Salume drew this for me for my birthday.
If you're having a hard time even processing all of the awesome that's taking place, what you are seeing is me (chrishaley) riding on the back of a dragon in my rock 'n roll star-powered sparkle pants with my best friends Scott Pilgrim and All Star Superman after having just defeated God in a game of checkers.

I am certainly one of the luckiest people around to have friends like this.
Friends who are able to fully grasp my awesomeness.
Jemma is the best.

She goes all the way..

Freddie Mercury Gets It Together!
The full picture is over at Let's Be Friends Again.
Another in my series of Freddie Mercury sketches for people from Curt and I's convention appearances.

This one was actually drawn for Bryan Lee O'Malley and given to him at HeroesCon.. and while it is important to note that he did not request this sketch (or any sketch from me at all) he didn't throw it away (while I was standing there).
This leads me to believe he loved it.
That is the train of logic I have chosen to ride upon.
This "crazy train" is also bolstered by my previous intimation that I am in the personal possession of the two greatest images Mr. O'Malley has ever drawn.
I am saving those for tomorrow though.

Back to work..

- April took this awesome Polaroid. I don't know what it is about it, but it blows me away. I don't understand Tumblr (why does everyone hate "e" now?), but she's got other pictures on there as well.
- Funnybook Babylon is Downcounting Backwards.
- I'm going to buy this shirt. Or, by all means, feel free to buy it for me since my birthday is in about a month. Size small.
- Kinda makes me wish all of Scott Pilgrim was in color.
- Jason is completely awesome at coming up with things that look cool enough that I wish they existed. I'd ride that thing everywhere forever.

Oh, look!

The Spirit, Superman, and Scott Pilgrim by Jon Morris!

These are currently on their merry way to me!
I could not be more excited!
Look at all these exclamation marks!!!
And, as a bonus, I'm responsible for one of my favorite artists checking out (and subsequently loving) SCOTT PILGRIM!
I am the champions, my friends!
Hit the link (up there) for Jon's commentary on the matter.
Also, we are now officially even for my mistakingly attributing something Corey Lewis said as something you said, Bryan Lee O'Malley!

We talk and talk and talk about it..

Bryan Lee O'Malley liked Speed Racer too!
I didn't need anyone to validate my opinion, but that makes me feel good.
Generally if both I and one of my close associates agree that something is good, I know we are correct. Someone you respect thinking the same way is then not unlike some kind of delicious opinion icing on which one is able to turn one's tongue blue.

I'm still not crazy about Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim (though I've thoroughly enjoyed him in other things), but Mal has confirmed that he will be SP to the wonderful Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona Flowers. I guess if he's good enough for Mr. O'Malley, he should be good enough for me. Speaking of the Ramona announcement, courtesy of Mal's LJ I found this article on FirstShowing that shares my joy over Ms. Winstead's casting.
To me, this casting is as perfect as Christian Bale as Batman, Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Keanu Reeves as a guy who can really convincingly say "Whoa" in that movie where he says "Whoa".
That article also lead me to this post that helps make me feel like Michael Cera might not be so bad after all.

She's escaped from the past..

Blog@ says Mary Elizabeth Winstead (whom I've had a crush on since Sky High) is in final negotiations to play Ramona Flowers in Edgar Wright's adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
As if I needed a reason to be more excited about a Scott Pilgrim movie.
Much less this reason.
I don't think I've ever done a post as such as this, but I have now been left with no choice.

If only I had more time..

So, in case you haven't heard, Michael Cera is in "final negotiations" to play SCOTT PILGRIM.
I guess he’s popular at the moment after a string of two successful movies and one cancelled television show, but this is awful, awful casting.
Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, but I can’t imagine this guy fighting a girl scout, let alone Ramona’s 7 evil ex-boyfriends.
Fuck, I can't even imagine this guy raising his voice!
He's likeable, but not Scott Pilgrim likeable. He doesn't have the charisma to pull off a magical, video game style dance fight. I'm sorry, but he just doesn't.
What's worse is if this does happen then he's going to be who everyone thinks of when they hear the name "Scott Pilgrim". Guh.

Clark Kent's Super Little Life!

Clark Kent's Super Little Life!
Just wanted to try to come up with a young Superman if he were in the Scott Pilgrim-verse.
I've actually been sitting on this one since before Scott Pilgrim Vol. 3 came out.

Got lost in the shuffle, I guess.
I think it's my favorite thing I've ever done.

Until you kiss me...

The Weekly Crisis has a great piece up on Michael Turner and his fear of feet. Enjoy it as I did.

Also, in case you missed it, last week was the Best Week Ever for comics.
All Star Superman and Scott Pilgrim.

In the same week.
Tons of other great stuff, but really, those two are all I need to mention for you to understand how great it was. If I were a better artist I'd try to draw a picture of the two of them together. They'd probably be high-fiving or something similarly awesome. (Author's note : If you're a great artist and you just read that, you've just read my Christmas wishlist.)

Oh, speaking of awesome Superman team-ups, check out what
Jon Morris drew for me!
Superman and Devil Dinosaur!
SUPERMAN AND DEVIL DINOSAUR!
He said it was the weirdest request he'd ever received and there was no way he could turn it down. I win.

So,
Rich tells us DC is killing Bruce Wayne, having him come back as a New God in the Fifth World, and be replaced as Batman by Jason Todd as designed by Alex Ross.
That sentence was so insane it could only have come from the mind of Grant Morrison.
And since this is apparently all part of Grant's masterplan, I'm willing to trust him and not get angry with rage over the idea of them killing Batman.
Good luck with the rest of the fanboys though, Grant.
