I had a pretty weird day today (Tuesday). It was odd in a weird kind of way. Music I normally enjoy sounded like it was off a bit and displeasing to the ear, I had trouble talking like a normal human being who has any kind of social skills, and any number of other things. I found myself thinking about things and people I hadn't thought about for some time and feeling rather melancholy about it all. I was at work almost a full hour past when I was supposed to be there, and yet for some reason, it didn't feel like I was there for very long at all. I kinda felt like a balloon all night, just drifting around doing things randomly. I don't guess it was bad, but it was weird.

I sent this picture to Gabe (the guy who draws Penny Arcade) after I read that he was a big Daredevil fan, and like 30 minutes later he sent me back an e-mail saying "That looks awesome man, great work". Needless to say, I nearly started crying with excitement. Just thought I'd share that little bright spot in my life with all of you.

The first images from the Van Helsing flick starring Hugh Jackman as Dracula's nemesis have surfaced. I dunno, I think they look pretty neat.. what about you?

It's a sad day for video games and video game lovers everywhere.

Apparently the site had more hits on Sunday than it has ever received in any previous single day. All I can say is "Wow." and "Thank you." to all of you who made it happen. If there's ever anything I can do for you or that you'd like to see me put on here just for you, let me know and I'll do my best. I mean don't get me wrong, I hate you and you'll all have to die when ascend to my rightful place as Emperor Fabulous.. but I love you as well, so I guess it balances out. Also I've seen Daredevil three times now.

The International Toy Fair happened last week or is going on right now or whatever the case is here are some highlights:

I don't know that I'd call these figures because they're really more like little statues, but they still look pretty cool in my estimation and they might in yours as well. I mean, c'mon, Alex Ross was involved.

Unlike the G.I. Joe stuff that Chris McCarver buys, this stuff looks pretty cool.

In my opinion I've saved the best for last. I think that if these actually look like these prototypes do when they come out they may very well be the best figures ever made of these characters.. and by these characters I mean the JLA.

I'm very specific about what I want from a comic book movie, ESPECIALLY a superhero movie. Daredevil delivered on all counts. Because of this, any shortcomings that the film might have were easy to discard. DD shined through on several counts.

1) Every new superhero movie ultimately means that I have to endure an origin sequence for every major character when all I want is for them to get into costume and start kicking ass. Daredevil broke that standard. This is not a movie that's sole purpose is "establishing a franchise."

2) Not only does Daredevil stay true to the comic book, it manages to come up with some really great ideas about DD and his powers that no one had come up with yet. On a couple of occasions I thought to myself "Have they done that in the comic? That's really a great idea." I think this is what made the movie brilliant.

3) The action was cool. Superhero cool. Running around and making jumps no human could make, swinging around like no human could. Fun, comic book panels, up on the screen. Wicked cool, guys. Seriously.

You should go see it. Good stuff!"

So get this, there's going to be a Tenacious D movie. And that's cool enough in and of itself, right? But guess who's going to be directing it. Liam Lynch of Sifl and Olly fame!! What kind of crazy, world where dreams come true kind of world are we living in?!

I know some of you are planning on seeing the Daredevil flick tomorrow night, so here's a review of it if you're inclined to read reviews before you see movies. The best way I could review this movie is by telling you that I look forward to seeing it again.

Speaking of Ben Affleck and Daredevil, guess who got to see a sneak preview of the flick last night a full 3 days early? Yes, that would be me. My total thanks to Tara for asking herself the question, "Who do I know that loves Ben Affleck and Daredevil and is really excited about seeing the movie about Daredevil starring Ben Affleck?" I mean, I can only assume that's what she asked herself. Not that you necessarily give a rip about my opinion, but I liked it an awful lot.

In other superhero news, thought he's said he doesn't care for superheroes, Guy Pearce is the prime candidate to play Batman in the new Bat-flick for director Christopher Nolan (Insomnia, Memento).

You know, it just occurred to me that people that are new to this website might not get that my thinly veiled allusions to being in love with Ben Affleck are only half serious. I know some of the pictures of me here on the site might make you think otherwise, but I am, in fact, not gay.

The new Ninja Turtle's cartoon premiered this weekend, and though I didn't get to see it, let's all celebrate by reading this review of "Christmas with the Turtles."

Sony Pictures has put together a pretty good site for the upcoming Hellboy flick. If you like Hellboy you'll probably like it, and if you don't know who Hellboy is then you should go here and find out.

There will probably be a new official Hip Today shirt available in the very immediate future based on a scenario Adam and I imagined me missing out on. I'm hoping that it will be a rousing success among the lovely ladies that frequent this website.

If this guy can act, then I'm fine with him being cast as Superman and being done with this whole to do once and for all.

I'm frightened by how famous these kids are probably going to be within the space of a few weeks. "Famous" on the internet I mean, but mark my words this thing is going to spread like wildfire.

If I could be honest with all of you about two things right now I'd like to, and since it's my website, I'm going to do just that.

1) I honestly feel like there's been some good stuff going on here on the site here in the last week or weeks as far as content, and I hope you've all been catching it all. 2) I'm honestly a little bummed out that more people haven't e-mailed me about hearing the mp3 we've got available for download. It's not a full band thing, it's just an acoustic cover of an Ozma song with Edward playing guitar and me singing and Adam helping with the recording, engineering, producing end, but I think it's pretty good and I thought there would be a bigger response than I've gotten so far. I guess that's it.

I appreciated this a lot more now that I'm doing some skateboarding. I'm making progress, but I'm sure that's what many of you thought would be happening.

I bought and watched the Dimension Collector's Series Edition of From Dusk Till Dawn last night. I enjoyed it thoroughly. You know who else enjoyed this movie? Seanbaby! Let's hear his thoughts on the film now.
Salma Hayek may be the living definition of "hot" in that movie.. but maybe that's because she doesn't say much.

I meant to post something about this sooner, but I'm only human so I forget things sometimes. Anyway, on to what I was going to say. I ran into most of the Renegades of Phunk at Chili's the other night and though not much happened in the way of shenanigans since they were about to be on their way out and I was there with a group of people that didn't need to be corrupted by the Renegades just yet, it was pretty cool being introduced as "Hip Today". It was kinda like that comic in the 70s where Spider-Man met Superman... if Superman and Spidey were websites in the greater Memphis area.

Because Hip Today cares about all of your individual interests, here's some news strictly for Edward. (Everyone else is welcome to read it as well though.)

Gabe says eating one of these is like God smiling at you, and I'm inclined to agree with him.

This whole business with the space shuttle blowing up is pretty weird. President Bush called it a tragedy for the nation, but after 9/11 I guess this doesn't seem quite as traumatizing. It's sad yes, but I guess 9/11 had a desensitizing effect as to what constitutes a national tragedy. Hopefully I don't sound like some kind of callous jackass by saying all of this.

For those of you who care, the answer is yes, I'm still feeling weird about things in general in my life at the moment. School, work, friends, relationships, family.. it all feels weird. I still think things are going to turn around though, and not just be back to normal, but be even better than before.

Onto other news: For the gamers, it looks like The Sims will be coming to the Gamecube. I still don't know if that'll entice me enough to give it a shot though. Also on the way to the Cube is DBZ: Budokai. I might be interested in that one. I guess time will tell. And if you like ghosts and/or goblins this may be of interest to you as it was to me.

I just spent like the last 3 to 6 hours playing WWF No Mercy and Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64 with Adam, Chris McCarver, Corey, and Danny. Towards the end I felt like I was losing my mind.

On the one hand I want this, but on the other hand I don't know if I need 9 discs of Aliens.

Remember the other day when I told you it's been a weird couple of days? Well, that trend of weirdness has continued. It's like a lot of things that seemed very certain suddenly do not, and other things are doing less than making sense as well. I really feel like I may be at some kind of crucial point or crossroads right now in a whole lot of areas. I dunno, maybe I take things the wrong way sometimes and look at things in weird ways, and maybe I say things like this too often, but it's my website and if I don't tell you how I'm feeling no one else will. I'm not even sure if this makes any kind of sense, but it feels good to get it off my chest. Maybe things will be back to normal by the next time I post something. I'm going to keep my eyes to the skies and stay confident that everything will work out. Rock and roll, kids.

In happier news my prayers have been answered because Seanbaby has returned! He's back with his uncensored list of the Top 10 Naughtiest Games of All Time. It's pretty funny, but I'll go ahead and warn you right now, it's not for the kiddies or the easily offended so keep that in mind before you go looking at it at work or in front of your grandmother.

It's been a weird couple of days, kids. I'm still feeling sick despite all of the medicine I've been taking. Did I say medicine.. because I meant cereal.

Ok, now for my thoughts on the trailer for the new Matrix flicks. I'm not that impressed. Yeah, the some of the fighting stuff looks pretty cool, but a lot of it looks really CGI.. really obvious CGI. And even some of the scenes that weren't fight stuff looked like really bad CGI. I'm sure this could be because it's not the finished product, and I honestly hope that that is the case and that these flicks are going to come out and totally knock me on my "A", but at this point I'm not counting on it. I mean, one of the coolest things about "The Matrix" was that it all seemed really grounded in a realistic view of the world. Fantastic and unbelieveable things happened, but they happened in a realistic context and in such a manner that it seemed somehow believeable. Yes, the fights in the first movie seemed (and would be) impossible, but at least it looked like (and for the most part) it was the actors themselves actually doing the fighting and not computer generated versions of them. So yeah, that's my piece for now. I'll check back in later if I have more, but I'd be more than happy to hear from any of you on the subject.

For those of you that didn't get to see it during the Super Bowl, here is the new trailer for THE HULK. I'll be honest with you, it's jaw-droppingly good in my opinion. I showed it to Adam, and after it was over I looked over at him and I swear his jaw was on the floor. Before I saw this trailer I wasn't sure what to think of the movie, but now I'm officially psyched for it.

While we're watching trailers, I might as well hip you to the new trailer for the Matrix sequel(s). Watch and form your own opinions.. I'll post mine later.

I got Resident Evil 2 for the Gamecube a few nights ago, but I have yet to have a chance to get into it. As you know I love zombies, and this game is full of them, so I'm hoping for good things. I'm accepting thoughts and opinions on the matter as we speak. I'd like to thank Pat for "hipping" me to the deal that allowed me to get said game for a low, low price.

I should add some kind of stipulation that you have to download all these songs on Kazaa or something, and listen to them, and be able to prove to me that you've listened to them in order to claim the prize. You know, whoever is cutting these Daredevil trailers has some kind of uncanny ability to take a lot of cool footage and throw in 2 seconds of retarded every so often in such a way that it makes this movie look pretty goofy. Don't get me wrong, I think it's actually going to be a pretty good flick, but the guy responsible for these trailers needs to be stopped.

This is the best DVD news of 2003 so far in my opinion.

I'm pretty excited about this DVD news though also. And of course I guess I can't forget to mention this DVD either.

I played an a-yass-load of laser/lazer tag last night with Ed, some other people from work, and a bunch of people I've never met. It was a pretty good bit of fun, but I managed to re-injure my leg that got F'ed up during the New Year's Eve shenanigans, so that was less than fun. It occurred to me a few minutes ago that playing lazer tag is a lot like playing Doom or multiplayer Bond or some such other first person shooter... but you know with running and sweating instead of clicking and swearing.

I think the something that I'm coming down with (as mentioned in the previous post) is a concussion. Pretty cool, eh?

It's been a crazy last few days...

You can file this one under "Shows What Chris Haley Knows" because December ended up being Hip Today's biggest month ever! And this was after I had written the month off since after a really big start to the month things had slowed down considerably, and I just gave up on checking with the server stuff to see how the site was doing for the month. Then for some reason I checked it tonight and it turns out December just barely beat the old record. The first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino's new flick Kill Bill has just been released and can be viewed here. See what you make of it. I've only watched it once and my guess is this flick is either going to be fantastic and possibly QT's crowning achievement to date, or one huge cluster-F.

Adam has told me that I need to inform all of you that Dave Chappelle has a new show on Comedy Central. It starts on January 27th, so mark your calendars now.

I'm not sure how good this movie is going to be, but I love the games it's "based" on, and our sweet Lord knows I love zombies, so you can pretty much count on me going to see it. Frankly that should be enough for you people.

As anyone who knows me might guess from the name, this soumds like something I'd be very interested in: Zombie King!

The way December started I thought this month was going to break the "hit/visit" record by quite a large margin, a mere month after November broke the previous record which had stood fast and strong for 16 months. However, after a very strong opening week things started slowing down. I don't know if I really have anywhere I'm going with this, I just thought I'd share. In other back from our childhood news, Fox is planning on remaking/relaunching/re-somethingening Strawberry Shortcake.

The boxing matches happened today (by today I mean Friday even though it's after midnight) as planned, and it was an altogether enjoyable experience to watch and film. I'm fairly certain that some, if not a good bit of the footage filmed will make it onto the "movie". And while we're on the subject, some additional material was indeed filmed today, and Edward and I (and possibly Danny, I haven't talked to him yet to find out) are sporting the battle scars to prove it. Rock and roll.

Another matter of great importance is the fact that today (Friday, Dec. 20) is both Corey and Tara's birthday! I hope you emailed them or called them or gave them something or some such. Anyway, happy birthday to the both of you.

I hope to have a conversation like this some day..

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to receive either or both of the following for Christmas: one or two. Any of this in a medium is also nice. Don't worry though, I don't really expect any of you to get me any of this stuff... yes, I do.

Today is the big duke-a-roo boxing match between Danny "Mister Fister" Stanford and Bob. I'll be filming the entire thing and hopefully for those of you unable to attend it'll be footage worthy of the next "movie" we're in the midst of developing. If you'd like to attend the fight get in touch with me for info.

Speaking of the previously mentioned "movie", after the fight we hope to film additional material for it, and God willing we'll all come through that without a trip to the hospital. It's also my hope that all of you will think this video's title is as funny as Adam, Danny, Melissa, Tara, and myself thought it was.

It's too freaking late for me to be trying to come up with anything for this, and yet here I am. Ok, I've got nothing, I lied. Have a look at the teaser poster for what's sure to be one of 2003's biggest flicks, The Hulk. This is also our first look at what the incredible one is going to look like in the flick. I'll be honest, I'm pretty excited about seeing this.. but that really has nothing to do with the poster, as I was already excited about it.

And while I'm talking about movies that I will be excited about, here's some good news about the upcoming Superman flick.

Speaking of movies in general, I wish there was some way I could show this to every retard that came into Best Buy asking for the "fullscreen" version of something.

I doubt most of you will get a chance to, but if Equilibrium is still playing at any theater in your town you must go see it! Im not even playing around about this. If you don't, you'll wish you had.

From now until Tuesday night at midnight I will be trying my best to keep myself locked away from television so as not to accidentally see the new Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers trailer that is floating around the airwaves and the internet. I'm already excited enough about this movie without having this new trailer, which I'm told shows a little too much, spoiling any of the surprises or money shots that I'm paying to see on the big screen. Am I being too wierd? I can never tell.
On the other hand, if you'd like to see the new trailer for X-Men 2, I think that's ok.
This flick looks pretty funny while I'm on the subject of movie trailers.

Now if this doesn't look pretty wicked I don't know what does.

You know kids, there's an awful lot of stuff going on in the world at the moment to make someone, like me or you, pretty scared and/or uncertain about the future. I'm led to believe there's a threat of biological or nuclear warfare from any number of foreign powers, there's .. ahh skip it, I don't feel like getting all serious. Hip Today shouldn't bum you out. So forget all of that, everything is going to be ok.

So I saw an episode of this Muppet Babies ripoff cartoon called Baby Looney Tunes this morning. It may have been one of the worst cartoons I've ever seen, and it honestly makes me feel bad for the kids that are stuck with watching it instead of Muppet Babies. It worries me.

It seems like I had some other stuff I wanted to talk about, but I can't recall what any of it was, so I'll just say Happy Thanksgiving.

Here's an idea for all you poor saps with $200.00 coffee tables now. How about in the future you don't crack open every piece of electronics you get and fill it with illegal hardware. At the very least how about you don't bitch to me when your soldering iron escapades leave you high and dry."

So I'm watching Speed Racer, and one of the bad guys on the show says something along the lines of "We had no idea this Speed Racer was going to be so good!" ... and they're talking about him being good at racing.
